Sefton benefits from outstanding partnership

Residents of The Riverside Group have recently benefitted from warmer homes following the successful delivery of a home energy improvement project in the Sefton area of Liverpool. The Riverside Group, working in partnership with Warmer Energy Services, secured upward of £3,000,000 of funding via the Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP) to allow completion of the works.

CESP requires gas and electricity suppliers to deliver energy saving measures to domestic consumers in specific low income areas of Great Britain. The funding in relation to this particular project was provide by EDF Energy and enabled the installation of External Wall Insulation, Draught Proofing, Loft Insulation, Cavity Wall Insulation and Central Heating Upgrade measures to over 500 Riverside homes.

This project is one of several completed by The Riverside Group in partnership with Warmer Energy Services and demonstrates both organisations ambition to battle the ever increasing problem of Fuel Poverty. In addition to warmer homes, the residents will enjoy savings on fuel bills following installation of the energy saving measures.

Carl Henderson on behalf of Riverside Group Mersey North comments:

“In these difficult times of austerity, our clients (tenants) are feeling the hardship. The Riverside Group is well aware of the challenges that our tenants face. We are committed to supporting the vulnerable in any way possible through capital investment projects such as this. Here at Riverside Mersey North, we will continue to explore new opportunities that will assist our tenants by reducing fuel poverty”.

The scheme has kicked started the regeneration of the area, with a further £5,000,000 of CESP funding secured to deliver similar measures to private homeowners. The project has also resulted in the creation of 24 new jobs at Warmer Energy Services, ranging from Resident Liaison Officer to Construction Safety Officer.

Carl Henderson also commented “This project has also reduced the social exclusion stigma that often occurs when improvement work is carried out. The project has acted as a “springboard”, allowing other associations and private homeowners to take advantage of this external insulation work, free of charge. In addition to this the project has also allowed opportunities for local employment initiatives, helping local residents gain sustainable employment”.
Phil Warren, Managing Director, Warmer Energy Service commented – “Riverside have been incredible, they’ve supported our application for funding and contributed further monies in order to make this project happen. It’s kick started the regeneration of the area which has now enabled private homeowners to take advantage of the home improvement measures. Carl Henderson and his team at Riverside must be congratulated; it’s making a real difference to the area and more importantly the people”

Catherine O’donnell (Affordable Warmth Officer) is also working in partnership with “Groundwork”, who provide services such as supporting residents to reduce energy consumption in their homes. Regular “Bill” clinics are being held in the Peel Road area as part of the affordable warmth strategy. Funding for “Groundwork” has also been a success story for Mersey North as its continuing mission to support residents. As part of this strategy we continue to recruit local residents to become community energy champions, the purpose of this role is to empower our local residents to be more energy aware in homes across their area.
